letter sent to the mayor of san antonio. warning post now seen at the beach
May 19, 2008A week after the incident , a letter was sent to Mayor Romeo Lonzanida by one of our friends’ mother. an excerpt of it is
The group intens to go back for a campaign on the dangers of the place, though this has already started through the internet. i feel obliged to inform you about this, believing that being the municipal mayor, you should be the first one to be informed of the fatal incidents and ensure the safety of f uture tourists in the anawangin and pundakit area.
We haven’t gotten any feedback after the letter was sent. Manny, one of our trek comrades went back to anawangin beach just this Labor day, this time with a different group. No drowning incident was reported. However a new signage post is now seen along the shore. Aqua paint on wood board. i couldnt figure the words written on it though ( as the picture was just sent to us)..
It might say: PAALALA: WAG LUMANGOY SA MALAYO KASI MALALIM. DITO LANG SA MALAPIT.
There. that would sound sensible don’t you think? ^_^ i congratulate the person who brilliantly thought of this and i hope that the people will take the warning seriously. We’re not sure if this is an action done in response with the letter but whoever has thought of this, thank you pa rin po.
Take a look at this topshot (sent by Manny) of the beach for an update on the deep spots that they say constantly changes.
Be sure to read our beach safety tips when going there.

I have been receiving text messages from concerned people. Some expressing their gratitude for putting up the site and others asking me stuff about accomodations and available boats going around pundaquit. haha. i had this long kitikitexting from a very concerned guy.
me: hello there. we will not be going there to make some noise. we will just put up a signage there and maybe make other campers aware of the dangerous waters in the area.
i forgot what i replied him with that statement. i started to feel guilty that putting up this website would even draw attention and spread the news about the beauty of anawangin than the danger of its waters. im sure that more and more people will come to the place because of this ad. i even received a message from a group who got more excited because of the "kahiwagaan" of the place. i just drew the punches for them to keep safe and pray once they get there.
To everyone who has visited this site and extended their thank you’s, you’re all welcome po. we hope that this site will really inculcate in the minds of every beeach-goers to be watchful from then on. tc everyone.

Posted by anawangin at May 20, 2008, 9:15 amthanks talaga for putting up this site….promise behave kami pagdating kay anawangin….thanks talaga.
Posted by kengkay at May 21, 2008, 4:40 pminiisip ko lang kase… parang ang dami nang nkakaka-alam.. ika nga ni anton of OUR AMAZING WORLD… can u keep a beach a secret? hehehehe…
Posted by anawangin at May 21, 2008, 5:31 pmWe just recently created an Info-Blog for Anawangin and felt shocked about this scenario.
It’s a good thing you guys posted this article for everyone to know about what happened. At least extra caution will made when visiting the island.
We, at Tour de Manila, supports your Campaign!
Posted by Tour De Manila at May 26, 2008, 3:52 pmthanks for the information. sna yung mga masyadong adventurous will take this seriously. you did not make this site naman para siraan yung place but only to inform all of us.
for those local officials of that place, cguro dapat meron tlaga hospital na malapit thats not only for the possible victims but also for the people na BUMOBOTO sa inyo at NAGLAGAY kung nsan man kau ngaun. DIBA?
Posted by anawangin at September 30, 2008, 10:21 amHi! papunta kami anawangin and we planned to spend new year there. thanks for the info. pero honestly, medyo natakot ako pumunta to think 2 foreigners pa kasama namin. Sana meron man lang first aid clinic sa pundaquit at sana may ospital sa san antonio di ba? lalo na marami tourist na pumupunta.
anyways, if tutuloy pa kami we will take extra care talaga.
salamat ulit!
Posted by Rocks at December 17, 2008, 5:35 pmThank you for this site…actually im planning to invite my friends to go der in Anawangin because of the beauty of the place. but now i change my mind, Actually im a travel assistant from a travel agency and i love to explore different places but for Anawangin maybe pass muna. Posted by julie Ü at March 29, 2009, 7:18 pmGuy’s i’ve been to anawangin this weekend..ang ganda ng place, the beach, sand and landscape…it is a total package talaga…one thing na napansin ko which is not good is pagdating ng gabi kanya-kanyang bonefire…this create a permanent damages sa place, though maraming dry wood, it is much better na naprepreserve pa rin ang natural stage ng lugar…if we know how to promote the beauty of nature…it is better that we also promoting how to preserved them…maganda ang place..pero kung patuloy lang naabuso…nadedeteriorate little by little untill such time mawawala na and these beauty is irreplaceable…sa poster na lang ulit natin maeenjoy… i dont want to be sound KJ sa inyo…ok lng ang trip but we must be responsible..yung iba nagsusulat ng name dun sa rockies…may nagbabantay nga sa place…wala namang ginawa kundi mangolekta ng fee (100/head) then may barbed wire na…i dont want to feel sound bitter….maganda ang place…i wont contest that…but dont you think it is responsibility ng bawat pupunta dun ang pangalagaan ang place… it’s a truce…enjoy mo ang place but irespeto mo din…wag na nating hintaying mastress pa ang nature saka natin sasabihin na sayang ang place…
thanks po sa guamwa ng site na to, sana ipost mo din ang mga do’s and don’t sa pagreserved ng kalikasan…
i was here last year… and last week… i say it’s different now. sana there’s a way to preserve the beauty of the pLace.. sayang naman if masira.

Posted by charo! at April 11, 2009, 11:48 pmMy family were in Anawangin Cove last April 6, 2009.It was an experienced that we won`t forget.Because of the incident, I adviced my children not to visit it again. We encountered so much on that day.13 people almost drown and that includes me,my husband,3 kids,3 nieces,3 housemaid and 2 friends. Thanks to those who rescued us and thanks to the Lord who gave us second life.
Posted by lhen segunto at May 2, 2009, 9:40 pmnandito po kami nung may 2 2009 morning til afternoon.
Posted by Alvin at May 4, 2009, 12:42 pmMarami pa ring uninformed about the rip currents in ANAWANGIN. They should come prepared and know what to do or to expect once they encounter the rip current. It’s deadly but you can get away with it kung alm mo kung ano gagawin mo. hopefully this site will give you some idea how and what to expect. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/akq/marine/rip.php
