April 2009 incident

May 8, 2009

A comment was posted by a a concerned mother and i thought of reposting it as a blog entry. im sure a lot of people are coming in the place since it’ the summer, so we would like to increase the alert when going there. Julie was there this april and lunckily no incident happened during that weekend stay. except for this certain weekend where lives are almost claimed.

*********************************************************************************************************************************

Last April 6, 2009, we were in Anawangin Cove.We rented 3 boats coz we`re total of 18 person. All of us we`re amazed to the beauty of the beach.A few meters away from the shore water level is only waist level.I took a lot of pictures .After few minutes I joined to my family (my husband,my kids who are 11,10 and 5 respectively,3 nieces,3 housemaids, and 2 friends.3 steps away from the shore I noticed that water became deep.I shouted.BABA LUMALALIM!To make sure that they would hear me enough I made another 3 steps and shouted again then I swam back.I stood up,but it became my eye level.I did a back stroke.Stood up,I saw my sister`s nanny drowning already,my 5-year old girl who were only remained calm, comfortable, and innocent. The rest of the group were all drowning.I cant no longer see my husband I knew he drowned himself intentionally so he could lift her girl high but I knew in few seconds I`m gonna lose them both.Without hesitation,I continued swimming back.I stood up, assumming that I can stand on my feet already but it became deeper and deeper then I started drowning. With full of faith, I decided to swim in back stroke, shouting in prayer.LORD PABALIKIN NYO PO AKO SA PAMPANG KAILANGAN NG TULONG NG PAMILYA KO!I took a deep breath and shouted.TULONG! Right after, the water covered me from feet up to my head.I saw a a family who were just a meter away from my family. The level of the water to them were only on their waist. Finally, I reached the shore.I shouted as loud as I can.TULONG!Rescuers came. One from the boatmen dived to reach my family fast but he stood up because the same to the group who almost beside us level of water were the same. Some rescuers just walked and run. Some of them were only 5`4-5`6 in height my husband is 5`8 tall. Two from our group who are very good swimmers swam hard to save my family. They said that water is too high and its very difficult to swim. Thanks God we are all saved.I witnessed everthing.I felt the presence of the Lord how he saved us.He spared us from death. Pls. do not visit ANAWANGIN COVE.A lot of people drowned to death.

she didnt say “3 steps from the shore” ms amy leigh… she said she made 3 more steps near her family so they could hear her…

if you’ll notice the sand at the bottom.. the waves made rippling effect on it.

This can be found dun sa pinakadulo ng cove, yung may paakyat at may nkalagay na private property. Plus yung current ng tubig from sea to river or from river to sea!

be sure to ask the bangkero!
Been there done that… 09062720674

But still, chest deep parin yun and hindi sya few steps or meters from the shore, medyo may kalayuan and i doubt kung may bangkerong nag bababa doon. Suggest ko po the BEST is yung nasa bandang centro ng cove. And one more po, paki respeto ang lugar pag andun po kayo. Thanks and have a great time kung pupunta kayo doon.=)

hello!

question lang po about sa anawangin.

thanks!

Anawangin is known for having a strong ‘rip current’.

A rip current is a strong channel of water flowing away from the shoreline, typically through the surf line, and can occur on any shore that has breaking waves. The water flows seaward from near the shore. Typical flow is at 0.5 meters per second (1-2 feet per second), and can be as fast as 2.5 meters per second (8 feet per second). Rip currents can move to different locations on a beach break, up to tens of meters (a few hundred feet) a day. They can occur at any beach with breaking waves.

Rip currents are a source of danger for people in ocean and lake surf. They can be extremely dangerous, dragging swimmers away from the beach and leading to death by drowning when they attempt to fight the current and become exhausted. Although a rare event, rip currents can be deadly for non-swimmers as well: a person standing waist deep in water can be dragged out into deeper waters, where they can drown if they are unable to swim and are not wearing a flotation device. Some beaches are more likely to have strong rip currents than others, and a few are particularly well known for them, the overall topography of the area being the main factor.

I had visited Anawangin twice already. I am a non-swimmer and I had a luxury of going more than 20 feet away fromt the shoreline. I too wasnt aware of the danger that lurks for me and I’m glad that nothing happend.

My advice next time is be aware and practice safety all the time.

I do not agree to this statement _Pls. do not visit ANAWANGIN COVE.A lot of people drowned to death. _ yes marami na nga tragedy na nangyari in this place but lets all remember anawangin cove is not a leisure park nor a resort. let us not blame nature .. yes its beautiful almost like paradise but never under estimate nature she can be dangerous .. our own safety in this domain is our own responsibility.. there is a lot of what ifs should have must have… but this responsibility must start with us when we go there .. tnx to the creator of this site hats off to you . this is a start ! being aware of the dangers of nature, learning from others.. this is what we need knowledge and education so that such tragedy like sir mel’s (one of tragic deaths in anawangin)and the others can be avoided.. to the authorities covering anawangin and the rest of pundaquit we hope you hear their stories and this people asking for actions, please remember you and your people in this place is a stakeholder .. your people earn money and make a living out of this place pls take care of it and the people who visits. to visitors practice precautions and safety firsts, be aware , do research.. to everyone let us all be safe….God bless us all..
